Is the recession gaining on us?

The value of bicycle shipments to the independent bicycle dealer network was $812.4 million in 2008, a 1.9% increase over 2007, according to the Bicycle Product Suppliers Association. Most of that growth occurred in the first 10 months of the year, because the value of shipments declined 6.7% in December and 2.3% in November. The recession appears to be finally impacting cycling. Road bikes accounted for most of the value, accounting for 32% of all shipments.
