Cycling continues to defy the economy

The National Sporting Goods Association reported that the value of bicycle imports rose 18 percent in the first nine months of 2008, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. The number of bicycles imported rose only 2% for the same time period, meaning that buyers — many of them Masters cyclists — were paying more for the bikes. In all 13.72 million bicycles were imported into the U.S. in the first nine months of 2008, with a total value of $1 billion.
