Feel lucky?

USA Triathlon put out a press release of interest to age-group triathletes today. Here’s a paraphrased take on what it said….

If you didn’t get one of the age-group slots for the Short Course (Olympic) Triathlon World Championships in Australia, USA Triathlon announced Tuesday that it has decided to hold a lottery for the event. The organization will be offering one spot in each age group. To be eligible, however, you must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • Any athlete who is a past Team USA member from 2006-2008
  • Anyone who competed at the 2008 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championship

Here’s how USA Triathlon said the lottery works: “On April 1, 2009, USAT will send a link to all eligible athletes. Eligible athletes can register for the lottery via the link provided for $30 fee. This fee is non-refundable. However, if you get one of the lottery spots, this $30 will be applied toward your required $300 entry fee for the World Championship. All athletes interested in being included in the lottery drawing must register by 5 p.m. Mountain time on April 28.”

USA Triathlon will then conduct the lottery and notify the winners that day. Lottery winners will have one week to claim their spot by following the instructions on the email received on April 30. Any questions? Contact the Team USA coordinator at teamusa@usatriathlon.org.
